The Heart of the Home

Home is where the heart and the heart of the home is assuredly the kitchen. Most of us direct our home-lives from this hub of activity. We entertain, study, socialize, work and of course, nourish ourselves in this space. It is no surprise that most clients are frustrated with the flow or function of this most used room. The ever-changing needs for this space, make it the one that requires the most renovation and has the most impact on your lifestyle. If you are frustrated with your kitchen, don’t wait to change it. With a designer’s help, it can be significantly improved, and you will join others in saying, “I wish we had done this sooner.”

Glacier Edge Kitchen

Working for a very busy professional mother of two, my objective was to create a streamlined space that allowed for efficient workflow while creating a gathering place for the family. The result was reworking the kitchen and dining room into one with a multi-height island. The new island is a workhorse, providing storage for pots, pans, utensils, and a large turnstile pantry. The back side of the island has customized drawers to store office supplies, and USB outlets to create a mini office. The table height island has hidden storage below and seats 5. This is the hub for all homework, projects, and meals. We added an "adult beverage" center for entertaining, and a workstation sink to maximize functionality. The new oven and microwave were moved to the wall to maximize countertop space, and the induction cooktop placed opposite the sink to make perfect use of the prep area.
